CARE TIPS FOR YOUR SKI GOGGLES:
HOW TO KEEP THEM SCRATCH-FREE AND LONG-LASTING
Ski goggles are among the most important pieces of equipment for winter sports – they protect your eyes from UV rays, wind, and snow, ensure clear vision, and enhance your safety. To enjoy your ski goggles for a long time, proper care is essential. In this blog post, we’ll show you how to take care of your ski goggles so they stay in top condition and scratch-free.
1. PROPER CLEANING FOR CLEAR VISION
Regular cleaning of your ski goggle lenses is essential to ensure clear vision and optimal protection. Avoid using rough materials like your jacket or sweater, as these can cause scratches. The best option is the microfiber cleaning cloth provided with your goggles or another high-quality microfiber cloth. Ensure the cloth is clean to avoid introducing dirt or debris.
Here are some essential tips for cleaning your ski goggles properly:
- Use Only Clean Water: Stick to pure water when cleaning your ski goggles. Household cleaners or chemicals can damage the anti-fog coating and anti-reflective layer.
- Be Cautious When Wet: Avoid wiping the lenses when they are wet. This can harm the anti-reflective coating and cause scratches. Instead, shake off your goggles thoroughly to remove as much snow and water as possible.
- Dab, Don’t Wipe: If your goggles remain wet after shaking, gently dab them dry with the cleaning cloth instead of wiping. This prevents dirt from being rubbed into the lenses.
- Clean Only the Outside: Focus on cleaning only the exterior of the lens. The inner side is treated with an anti-fog coating that is delicate and can easily be damaged. If you absolutely need to clean the inside, use only a small amount of warm water.
- Air Dry: After cleaning, let your ski goggles air dry to achieve the best results without risking damage.
Proper cleaning will ensure your goggles remain in top condition and provide the clarity you need for every run.
2. PROTECTION AGAINST SCRATCHES
Scratch-free lenses are essential for a perfect view on the slopes. To prevent scratches, always store your ski goggles in the provided pouch or, ideally, in a specialized ski goggle case. These cases protect the lenses from impacts, scratches, and other damage during transport or storage.
The lenses of our ski goggles are made from durable and resilient polycarbonate, a premium material that is inherently shatterproof and scratch-resistant under normal use, ensuring long-lasting performance. However, improper handling, such as heavy impacts or accidental closing of a lift bar or car trunk on the goggles, can still cause scratches. Please handle them with care to maintain their pristine condition.
3. AVOIDING FOGGED LENSES
All POP EYES ski goggles feature advanced anti-fog technology to prevent fogging in most situations. However, it’s crucial to treat the inner lens with care, as the anti-fog coating can easily be damaged during cleaning, significantly reducing its effectiveness.
Additionally, proper drying and storage practices can help ensure your lenses remain clear. After wearing your goggles, allow them to dry completely before storing. Avoid placing them in a tight bag or under a pile of equipment, as this can lead to condensation and fogging. Remember: nothing ruins a run faster than fogged-up ski goggles!
4. STORAGE WHEN NOT IN USE
When your ski goggles are not in use, store them in a dry, cool place to extend their lifespan. Avoid keeping them near heat sources like radiators or in direct sunlight, as this can damage the materials over time.
For optimal care, ensure your goggles are not stored tightly strapped to your helmet, as prolonged tension can lead to wear and tear. The included storage pouch (see picture) provides a basic level of protection for your goggles, but if you want to give your gear extra care, our ski goggle case is the ideal solution. It offers superior protection against impacts, scratches, dirt, and moisture, ensuring your goggles remain in excellent condition for many ski seasons to come.
5. WHEN THE WORST HAPPENS: LENS REPLACEMENT
Despite all precautions, scratches can sometimes occur. If you're using a ski goggle with a magnetic interchangeable lens system, like our JAMIE, there's no need to worry. We offer a wide range of replacement lenses that you can easily order, making your goggles as good as new!
Pro Tip for Changing Lenses: Hold your JAMIE goggles firmly by the nose area with your thumb and forefinger. Gently press the frame back at the small "bridge" located to the left or right of the lens, near the strap connection. This will release the old lens from the frame effortlessly, allowing you to insert the new lens without smudging or introducing dirt onto its surface.
With this system, you're ready to hit the slopes again in no time!
